Dubbed as “The King of Swing”, it was Goodman’s orchestra that established the most popular big-band jazz style of the 1930s and brought a new level of recognition to jazz. Along with recording a string of hit songs, he also introduced several other top jazz and popular music performers. As a jazz soloist, Goodman’s playing was a refined version of earlier Chicago-based jazz clarinet styles. At a time when it was unusual for a
